She is also a Member of Waterloo's Games Institute. Her background is in human-computer interaction, computer-supported collaboration, and computer science. Her research focuses on developing technologies that enhance human-human interaction in computer-supported work and casual environments. She specializes in the design of digital tabletop computer systems  for a wide variety of application domains, including tabletop gaming, military command and control, and emergency response.

Postdoctoral Fellows

blank_image.jpg  This could be you!  If you are a highly motivated graduating or recently graduated PhD student with expertise in the areas of HCI, Surface Computing, and/or Information Visualization, are great with people, and are seeking a Postdoctoral position, please see the CSL Positions Available page for current funded positions. If you have your own funding, please contact CSL Director, Dr. Stacey Scott ( stacey.scott@uoguelph.ca).

Current Graduate Students

Leila.jpgLeila Homaeian (PhD Student, University of Waterloo)
Leila is a PhD candidate in Systems Design Engineering.
Fany.jpegFanny Febriani Susilo (PhD Student, University of Guelph)

Fanny is a PhD student in Computational Sciences program at the University of Guelph under the supervision of Dr. Stacey Scott and Dr. Trevor DeVries. She received a Master of Engineering in HCI & Robotics from the Korea University of Science and Technology and a Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering from the Institut Teknologi Harapan Bangsa. She is interested in conducting user research, designing, and evaluating technologies for monitoring large farm animals to understand animal behaviours and promote animal welfare. Her research will be conducted by integrating human-computer interaction, animal-computer interaction, data visualization, and usability fields to deliver the desired outcome. While this research would like to tackle issues related to technologies design and animal welfare, it can contribute to the research and development in Computer Science and Animal Science domains.
DSC07765.JPGMuhammad Muhaiminul Islam (M.Sc. in Computer Science, University of Guelph)

Muhaiminul is currently doing his Master of Science degree in School of Computer Science, University of Guelph under supervision of Dr. Stacey Scott. He has finished his Bachelor of Science from Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh in Computer Science and Engineering. Later, he worked as a lecturer at a university in Bangladesh for 2.5 years. He has started his master's from Fall 2018 and working on precision livestock farming.
ayoola.jpgAyoola Makinde (M.Sc. in Computer Science, University of Guelph)

Ayoola is a Food from Thought scholar currently pursuing his Master's studies in Computer Science at the University of Guelph. He has an undergraduate degree from Babcock University, Nigeria. As part of his Food From Thought RAship, he has been working on an interdisciplinary project related to improving food literacy in Canada. He is still narrowing his thesis topic, but it will be in the general interdisciplinary area of precision livestock farming.

Marvin Pafla (M.A.Sc. in Systems Design Engineering, University of Waterloo)
Marvin is a SWaGUR Master's student in CSL. Marvin has a joint honours degree in Computer Science and Psychology from the University of Konstanz in Konstanz, Germany. Marvin completed a 1-year academic exchange in Computer Science at the University of Guelph, where he met Dr. Scott. Through a part-time URA and two summer internships in CSL, he has conducted two studies in the area of designing interactive public displays. He is still narrowing his specific research topic for his Master's thesis, but it will be at the intersection of HCI, AI, and Games.

Research Assistants; Co-op Students; Visiting Students

nathan_chan.jpgNathan Chan
Nathan is working with CSL researchers to expand an existing CSL multi-surface software application platform that allows groups of people to conduct collaborative sensemaking around geospatial data. Nathan has an undergraduate degree in Nanotechnology Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He is an avid computer game developer and co-leader of the Waterloo Game Development Club. He is working to develop his first tabletop game, Humanity.
cslpic.jpegKassidy Marsh (Undergraduate Computer Science student, University of Guelph)

Kassidy is an undergraduate student pursuing a joint honors degree in Computer Science at the University of Guelph. She did a full-time URA in the summer of 2018 with Dr. Stacey Scott, where she conducted research on the emerging field of Precision Livestock Farming. Her research focused on technology for the monitoring of cattle in outdoor environments. Currently, Kassidy is working with Dr. Scott on a senior undergraduate project that will allow her to further investigate the technology she researched in the summer.
